Fantastic alternative to the Surface Pro 4! For most persons, this is the model Miix 700 that you want (80QL000BUS). This is the business edition, so it comes with the Intel RealSense 3D camera and with a brighter screen (400 nit vs 300 nit.) Reading through the other reviews, I've seen a few complaints, so let me address them here.
1. Screen stickers. Yes, this comes with stickers on the screen and can leave a sticky mess if not removed properly. I used a hair dryer on high heat to soften the adhesive. Stickers then pulled off cleanly. 2. Keyboard and trackpad issues. Until recently, the included keyboard was a problem for some, missing keystrokes. The trackpad was unresponsive and sometimes had phantom gestures. This has been fixed with the latest keyboard firmware. Unfortunately, it will not be installed through normal updates and you must go to the support page at Lenovo.com to download it. Look for the folio case firmware for Windows 10. 3. Lenovo "crapware". Like other vendors, Lenovo includes some of their own software. It can all be removed through Programs and Features. Just remove the apps you don't want. I left very little, just the Lenovo System Interface Foundation. 4. Case scratches. Others have reported the finish scratches easily. I haven't had that issue, but I purchased a Skinomi skin for protection. I will say removing and reinstalling the charger has not scratched around the port yet.
Right now, I own a Surface Pro 4 (i7, 8gb ram, 256gb drive), a Surface 3 (4gb ram, 128gb drive), and a Surface Pro 2 (i5, 4gb ram, 128gb drive). Compared to the Surface line, this Miix 700 offers fantastic value for similar build quality and specs. The m7 cpu out performs the atom in the Surface 3 and right in line with the i5. The tablet is solid feeling, like the pro 4, but somehow feels lighter, similar to the Surface 3. Screen quality is superb, just as good as any of the Surface screens. The Miix even managed to fit in a second usb port. I actually prefer the feel of the kickstand hinge on the Miix, though I do prefer the look of the Surface's hidden hinge. Finally, I find Lenovo's keyboard superior, other than the lack of back-lighting.
I do have some criticisms of the Miix 700. First, the aforementioned keyboard not being back-lit. No reason not to include one, other than being cheap. The rear camera does not perform well in low light. The picture is very noisy compared to the Surface Pro 4. However, it looks fine in normal light. The most recent drivers are not being picked up by the software updater. To get those, you need to go the support site and manually download and install. A real pain and kind of defeats the purpose of having an update utility. Comes with Windows 10 home, not pro, and is not on the anniversary edition. Easy to update but it would be nice if it was there already.
The cons are minor and none were deal breakers for me. So far, this is a great tablet!

Two days ago it would have probably been a 4 star.It was almost perfect for my usage - reading online newspapers and watching sports events. However, after not quite three months, the screen went black while I was using it and it will not come up again, even after being on the oem charger for over twelve hours.ADDENDUM Apparently static electricity can cause this problem, was topossibly even from being on the charger too long.Solution was to hold in the on/off button at least 30 seconds and after let go at least another 30 could turn it on again.I'm still leery of it.
I agree with the typing problem.sometimes I must touch the touchpad and I end up typing in the middle of another word.No problems with the hinge.
Incidentally, the one year warranty is shorter than a year because it apparently starts when it's shipped to the seller and not the original buyer. My warranty showed at least 30 days short.
Snappy and fast, I liked it. And the touchscreen is very responsive as well.
But as an artist who works usually with Wacom products, I have mixed feelings. You would think that the buttons of its Lenovo Active Pen are configurable, given that it's a Wacom AES pen but nope this tablet is not cut out for it. The fact that this tablet is not supported by Wacom feel driver isn't helping much neither. If you need configurable buttons and all that, this tablet is not for you.
And if anyone wants to maximize their AES pens, I suggest them to stay away from tablets having ELAN touchscreens. And maybe the next Miix 720 series as well, since I heard from an article that the very same pen I use will be included in there as well.
I hope companies like Lenovo and ELAN are taking this into consideration and get their lazy asses working towards compatibility. Otherwise this review will stay as is.
needs some sort of protection as it is easy to scratch. This product is relatively good and pretty fast. Great upper / middle line for computers, its not the best out there but only a stop lower. You may want to check out this case for it as I had lots of problems finding a good case:
I ordered this IdeaPad one year ago. I was pretty excited because I thought of all the possibilities I could achieve using this device at my home and office. It was pretty slow starting up and while in use. Unfortunately, after 10 months it stopped working without a warning. I would start it and only the light next to the camera would come on. I feel pretty disappointed as I spent my hard earned salary for this and didn't get a year out of it. I feel very cheated.
Before I decided to write this review I checked the Lenovo website for tech support and there were many dissatisfied customers who owned this product and stated they were experiencing the same problem as I am.

I've nothing to complain about with this purchase, which is saying something, indeed.Once upon a time, you had to pay high prices for the power to support a multimedia and gaming platform, and I tend to buy very high-powered laptops over the years as a rule, because I cannot stand the performance of machines that are designed to be energy efficient and preserve battery life. While this isn't on the level of getting an overclocked i7 desktop with the latest Nvidia graphics card and liquid cooling ... let me put it this way: it's so efficient it doesn't need the cooling. For comparison, this is replacing an old 2006 Vaio laptop of mine that runs XP (not one of my high-powered machines, but one that I had converted for multimedia use). Merely playing a lot of youtube videos on that old Vaio would cause that machine to run so remarkably hot that it was painful to touch. This Lenovo, however, stays very cool for the entire duration of playing movies or games.W/r to games, unless you're playing the most demanding games (e.g., Skyrim or SWTOR with the highest details and options set), you likely won't notice any performance issues, either.
The real attraction of this laptop, however, is its touchscreen.I was unwilling to purchase a Windows 8 laptop without a touchscreen mostly because Windows 8 -begs- for touchscreen capability, as the mouse/keyboard alternatives aren't exactly intuitive. This is a nice, small, light laptop that does just about everything you might ever ask of it (outside of the most performance-demanding video games), and has full touchscreen capability with all of the Windows 8 touchscreen-enabled apps ready to go.Add Office 365 and VPN, and it fulfills work, play, email, video needs.
It's interesting what they leave off, to keep it small and light:it has no CD/DVD drive.Once upon a time, CD technology was fast and light and way more efficient than the alternatives. Now, it's far more economical to stream videos on the fly, or download games online services, instead of buying several CDs or DVDs to install/play.Technology is still leaping ahead, folks, in spite of the current economy, and this is a remarkably frugal means to get the latest tech and play with it.
For the record, this is the 3rd laptop I've bought from Amazon, and I find shopping for laptops this way to be far superior to checking out whatever happens to be in stock at local stores. The detail in the description and reviews is more than enough to determine whether it is a good purchase.I'm used to being disappointed. I expect disappointment. I was always disappointed with store-purchased laptops. Amazon-purchased laptops haven't disappointed me yet.
The only issues that I might imagine anyone having with this laptop are that it's Windows 8, and the UI is very touchscreen-oriented.If you aren't used to the new OS or touchscreens, it can be a bit of a leap from Windows 7 with mouse and keyboard.

I bought this laptop because of it's size, weight and because it had a touch screen. It also had Windows 8 which is another story and not relevant here. The actual physical computer met all my expectations and I am very pleased. However, I bought this in the beginning of July (it was delivered 2 weeks later) and in the beginning of September the computer would not start up. When attempting to start the computer a blue screen appeared saying there was a problem and the system was gathering data and attempting to resolve. This continued to occur every time the computer went into sleep mode and/or I tried to start it up. I called Lenovo CS and they attempted to resolve it. It worked for about 4 days and then started the same error. I called again. They totally rebooted my system (I lost my purchased software, of course, although I had backed up my data files) and said it should work now. It worked one time and then repeated the same error. I called CS again and they said I would have to send it for repair. They will not replace it. A word about Customer Service: while the service techs may speak English (more or less) they do not understand English. It is very difficult to explain any situation at all to them from the problems with the computer to issues regarding the return of the computer for repairs. For example: I live in the middle of nowhere and the closest FedEx drop off center is 60 miles away. I could not get that information across. It took half an hour just to have them tell me they would send FedEx to my door. Bottom line this computer worked for about 45 days and Lenovo will not replace it. I have very little faith that they will repair it so it will work satisfactorily. I have always had Dell products in the past and would have done so again except they did not have the small, light laptop I was looking for. More's the pity!
Edited:12/21/2013: Well I have had my laptop back for about 1 month now. It is partially fixed. As long as I do not let it go "to sleep" the issues have not reoccurred. However, if it goes to sleep when I attempt to start it up again, the system locks and has to recycle itself (same as before).
The latest problem is that the hinge holding the screen to the keyboard is now breaking apart. Lest you wonder I am a 66 year old female who uses the laptop about 20 hours a week while sitting on my couch. I haven't dropped it nor do I carry it anywhere unless it is securely strapped into a padded laptop case.
This is my first experience with Windows 8 and it does take a bit of getting used to.On advice from another reviewer, I downloaded Start8 from Stardock whichgives you a Windows 7 start window. The neat thing is you can then toggle between the start windows with a single finger swipe.I've been using the Windows 8 Start more and more as I get used to it. This is a very fast machine and I have had no problems with only 4 gigs of RAM.Like an earlier reviewer, I plan on upgrading to 8 gigs sometime soon.Since I have an extended warranty, I'll get it done at an authorized dealer to preserve the warranty.
As it does not come with an internal optical drive, I use an external LG Multidrive drive when I need to load a CD or burn one. Also, I have an external HP Simple Save 500 gig for backing up the computer.Neither of these need to stay connected for routine use.
The wi-fi feature works very well. We have created a wi-fi hotspot with a range extender that covers three neighboring homes nicely.I can hit my HP wireless printer from anywhere within 500'.I am frequently in other wi-fi areas and this machine detects and connects very fast.I use Norton Mobile to help protect me when out there in the outer realms.
The one thing I wish it had is a removable battery. That way I could have an extra charged battery and extend my operating time when out and about.
I do definitely recommend this ultrabook for anyone's use.
Despite the learning curve with Windows 8, this laptop has been fantastic. Pros: Beautiful Screen, starts up super quick, and for a aluminum unibody laptop, its fairly light.
Cons: Ram isn't upgradeable unless you want to void your warranty
Delivery was prompt but product was faulty and had to be returned.Laptop was unable to access internet via wifi due to very poor reception. The keyboard was also not impressive due to excessive flex.

I liked the Tablet, it is very good for the price and I really recommend it for those who are looking for a FULL windows experience with a decent price and a light, yet, solid device.
When I received the device, I really liked it, but the keyboard didn't work, I thought I missed something in the instructions, and tried to look for a solution online, I found nothing.I read the manual again, with no result. Then, I figured out that the keyboard needs to be put in a very accurate and sensitive position to be attached and synchronized to the tablet.
After that, it was really helpful yet very loose, and with any movement or any small touch the keyboard might easily be detached and disconnected from the tablet.
We ended-up using the tablet only.
It is worth mentioning that the 2 USB ports on both sides of the keyboard are great and really helpful, but with such loose and poor magnet base, we could barely used them.

I bought this piece of shyte for my wife to replace a small notebook she had for years. She tried to use it about 20 times before she just gave up completely, set it in a corner and never touched it again. Some of the problems she had were: The touchscreen didn't work properly, not sensitive enough and way too slow; The unit wouldn't turn on sometimes; The unit locked up completely at least once during every use. I recently gathered it up and tried to operate it, still haven't managed to get it to turn on...... What a waste of money! I'm going to box it up along with a bunch of dog poop and a nickel (so it will at least be worth something), and send it to Lenovo's CEO.
i ordered this tab even after reading through all the negative reviews, I have used this extensively for 3 days now.it did hang the very first morning after leaving it online overnight, may be because lot of updates were installed and it required restart but then onwards it is working like charm.
Lot of reviewers mentioned that the tab wont start in the first attempt and multiple power press attempts were required. I faced the issue first time but then on observing closely got the trick. there is small tiny led on the poer switch you need to press the power till the led lits and then release the power and it will start the very first time , amazing dock sound and screen clearity. For the price it is a good bargain...
I love the design of this tablet: the slanted case, docking features, keyboard, all very well designed. But I've had two defective units and I'm just done. The first one quit docking with the keyboard after just a week of use and the power button quit working at the same time. The second one ran so hot it worried me--not even while charging or after a long use, just 5-10 minutes into web browsing it was too hot to touch the edges. Then the speakers and microphone quit. I would have tried harder to troubleshoot that, but after all the other issues I just don't want to bother. Windows 8 is a mess. I like the UI, but apps were always freezing up and shutting down. I get that it's underpowered compared to a laptop, but I didn't use it for anything outside of web browsing and socializing.
Exchanged the first one and I'm returning the second for a refund. I wish I could love this tablet, and I would if it worked as intended, but Lenovo has a lot of issues to fix, or maybe I just had terrible bad luck.

Extremely problematic. The first problem was the power icon just disappeared so you never knew when to charge it. When that was fixed the problem came back after a few days. Then the other problem was it just decided not to come on totally. I needed to have it plugged in to get it to turn on. Lenovo wasn't helpful at all. Thankfully amazon heard me and gave a full refund. Then there are some other minor issues with it. The speakers aren't really that loud. And the screen isn't bright. This tablet looks great on paper but the reality is that its not worth it.
When i got the tablet it did take some time to do all the updates to windows 8.1 but this can be expected since the tablet came with windows 8 and had to update to 8.1 after the update the tablet was fast and i had not problem.
Just a side note for the people saying that the touch screen did not work when they got it, when i got mine it was also not working but all that i had to do was re-install the drivers that was in the C:/ ( the windows updates must have corrupted some of the drivers.) after the installation everything worked perfectly and has never failed again.
The only Con i have to mention and that is why this gets a 4/5 is the material they use to make the tablet can scratch easily. After i got it i got a Skin Wrap.
Great value at $299 with full HD 1920 x 1080 screen. Beats the Acer Aspire Switch 10 in build quality and much better screen. The Miix 2 is fast, well built, good keyboard and nice looking. Only criticism would be - the fact you can only position the screen in the dock with no ability to change screen angle
But - we review a lot of devices and this is one of our favorites - especially at this price - which won't last long because there aren't many Miix 2 10's left
Overall a good tablet, with the right amount of power, right form factor. Wish it had USB charging instead. The start button and the Windows button are a real pain. The Bluetooth is another headache. The fact that Lenovo loads it with a ton of bloat ware makes it indeed an irritating thing to rid off. Wish Lenovo support could be a little better for this device. I previously owned a Lenovo ThinkPad and bought this tablet on trust.
